Mega Man X

Review

An awesome game, well worthy of the name!  Mega Man has awaken in the future to find the world still needs him. The game includes interesting mechanics such as hidden equipements while making Mega Man more versatile (the climbing & gripping features are often life-saving features!) The bosses are cool, and the stages are fun to play; the hidden items add some spice to the levels, as you end up looking every nook and cranny of the game. The Sigma level is a bit of a dispointement; the guardians are a bit unroriginal. As for Sigma, well, it's fun to watch him jump up and down the screen, but that's about it.

Codes

This code will take you up to the game, right after the introductory level.
This code will take you to the Sigma stage with the 4 energy tanks, all heart tanks and weapons.

Mega Equipment

Mega Helmet Found in the Storm Eagle Stage, you'll need the Fire Cannon to get to it. It's behind one the rows of flammable cannisters. This Power-up will enable you to destroy blocks with your head; the rule book also says that it will diminush damages to the head, but it's hard to notice.
Acceleration System Found in the Chill Penguin Stage. It isn't hidden, so you automaticly get it. The A.C. lets Mega Man dash and jump greater lengths that he could before.
Mega Armor Found in the Sting Cameleon Stage. It is placed before the falling blocks; instead of going in the cave, you must jump and climb the wall. You will meet a monster garding it, but it has a simple pattern of attack and the plasma gun is fairly effective against it. The armor will reduce damage, allowing him to face the tougher bosses.
Mega Buster This item can be found at two places. The first (and easy) way is to wait for Zero to give it to you at the end of Stage One, Sigma Level. Second place is in Flame Mamooth Stage; before facing the mining joes you will see a set of block which can be broken with your helmet. The Mega Buster is just behind these blocks. This power lets all your weapons (including ones acquired by beating bosses) to power up.

Energy Containers

Heart Containers

A total of seven heart containers are scattered throughout the game; here are their locations

Bosses

Chill Penguin
Weapon : Ice Beam
Weakness : Mega Buster
The first level to be tackled, the Chill Penguin Stage is pretty much straight foward. You get to use a mech which is a fun (if under-exploited) game mechanic… wish they had put more! Chill Penguin's attack pattern is pretty simple; stay on the walls & shoot with the mega buster to eliminate him.
Storm Eagle
Weapon : Wind Cannon
Weakness : Mega Buster
Storm Eagle's stage require you to be nimble, as most other air related stages. Be prepared to grab on the platforms if you miss you jump. As for Storm Eagle himself, dash out of the way as he swoops down; shoot him down with the Mega Buster when he tries to blow you off the platform.
Flame Mammooth
Weapon : Fire Cannon
Weakness : Wind Cannon
This stage is much easier to attempt one chill penguin is defeated, as the lava will be frozen up! The stage is long, but requires very little fancy work. As for Flame Mamooth, stay under him using the accelaration system while shooting from afar with the Wind Cannon.
Spark Mandril
Weapon : Electrick Blast
Weakness : Ice Beam
This stage can get pretty tiresome as the light go on and off (thanks to Sparky!) The mini-boss (which, BTW, has nothing to do with sparks nor electricity) is defeated by using the Wind Cannon; four to five shots should do it. As for Sparky himself, he's very easily handled with the Ice Beam.
Armored Armadillo
Weapon : Armored Sphere
Weakness : Electrik Blast
The power stage if you want power-up those empty energy tanks; just stand around the mechanical bats at the beginning of the stage, they'll give out a lot of energy items! The excavating machines my seem invulnerable, but they can be easily handled with the Flame Cannon. As for Armored Armidallo, he very vulnerable to the spark cannon.
Lauch Octopus Weapon : Homing Missiles
Weakness : Armored Sphere
Launch Octopus's stage is as hard as they get, with lots of ennemies, most of them not that fragile! If you get swallowed by a fish, just shoot your way out. The Sea Dragons you will face are vulnerable to the Wind Cannon; just aim for the head! Lauch Octopus himself is vulnerable to Armored Armaddillo weapon; just don't let him get to close, or he'll suck your energy, while gaining some himself!
Boomer Kuwanger
Weapon : Boomer Boomerang
Weakness : Homing Missiles
Boomer Kwanger's stage is vertical (and though), but be assured, it'll be much harder when you get to Sigma! The extand-a-ledge are a pain; use homing missiles to shoot the cannons and climb on through. Homing Missiles on boomer Kuwanger should make for an easy kill.
Sting Cameleon
Weapon : Sting Ray
Weakness : Boomer Boomerang
The Chameleon might be hard to beat, but his stage sure isn't! The boss protecting the Mega Armor is vulnerable to the Mega Buster, though you might need to study his pattern of attack. You get to right around in a Mech again, which is always welcomed. Fight off Sting Cameleon with the Boomerangs; shoot while he's swinging, that way he won't get much of a chance to be on the offensive.
